Abstract
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a transformative infrastructure and economic cooperation project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). While the project was initially hailed as a game-changer, a decade of implementation has revealed a significant gap between its promises and actual achievements. This paper examines CPEC’s socio-economic impact on Pakistan, including employment shifts, urbanization, cultural exchanges, and local resistance. It also critically evaluates the recent findings from the 2024-2025 reports, highlighting key challenges such as financial sustainability, lack of local engagement, and the need for a shift towards a more people-centric development approach. Based on an extensive literature review and recent updates, this study offers recommendations for improving CPEC’s long-term effectiveness.
