UPSHOT OF TRASH DUMPING ON VIGOR IN PORT HARCOURT METROPOLIS

The study investigated the upshot of waste Dumping practices in Port Harcourt metropolis of Rivers State.  A total of 133 questionnaires were distributed and 133 were returned. The results showed that there were: no guidelines as regards waste dumping and dumpsites, inadequacy in funding, laxity in the practice of waste management as well as lack of organized waste management systems etc. Government should provide adequate funds for waste management personnel for the purchase of more evacuating vehicles and waste Dumping containers. There is need for environmental and public health education on the danger of indiscriminate waste Dumping in the study area. There is need to strengthen the work force, by recruiting more personnel in the Waste Management Authority.
